Art Proposal Thought Exercise

Please Make a Donation

This is a thought exercise I learned from artist / professor Hirsch Perlman.

Think of a proposal for an art project where there is no limitation of budget, technology, engineering, material, manpower, time, or space. If anything is literally possible, what kind of art project would you do?

Hirsch never quite spells out the goal of the exercise, but my take is that art is more about limitation rather than possibilities. And what would art look like if an artist is granted with such range and power…would it still be considered art? Even though this seems like a rather simple thought exercise, it has implication on how each of us think about the core attributes we assigned to art making.
